Pick them up check to see if a name, photo or address was on then. Look around to see if any else was looking around for them.
If not take them home keep them safe until you hear if anyone in the near location starts talking about them hand them in to the local police station.
If you recognise the picture in the wallet give it back to them
If its just a tenner or so – pocket it.
I found a wallet in a telephone booth, back in the day and tried to reach the owner….but to no avail. So I had no other course of action but to spend the money (small amount) wisely.
Hand it in to the nearest place place you found it (shop, café, bus/tram operator, venue reception). Owners usually check there first.
Secure it without rummaging
Don’t open compartments unless necessary to identify the owner.
Don’t post photos of ID, bank cards, or anything revealing personal data.
