FunkQuest – Season 2 – Final – Ann Smith v Dr.Kimya Nuru Dennis

Two very adept and well known funksters in this Final, but when it  comes down to the vote, who will be crowned Grand Champion of  FunkQuest Season 2?

Kimya chose the 'clownfish' icon for the opening question. How fast can she get dressed? - pretty fast as it turns out. Meetings, held within minutes of hearing about them and  being a night owl and waking up just in time, have honed her dressing skills.

Ann explained that the best place she had got lost was, on honeymoon, on a berry filled but muddy trail

Question 2 and Kimya revealed she had two pair of sunglasses which she loves but cannot wear because she gets sweaty in them. She has used them to illustrate the idea that, we need to be able to see reality but not blind ourselves to what is happening around us.

Ann chose the 'alarm clock' icon with the appropriate question 'Are you always early or always late?' She generally tends to be behind. A high school experience about being the first at her home room on day 1 caused her some anxiety, which ruined that day. It is probably best to be just in time and not too early.

Kimya prefers to be in a Hotel or a Bed and Breakfast, when away. Even before covid 19 she took hand sanitizer - you never know who has been in before you.

Ann communicates with her spouse very well, they discuss and don't argue. On harder subjects its easier to talk in the car, both looking forward and not meeting eye to eye which could allow things to escalate.

Question 4 and Kimya chose the 'waterfall' icon. She last lost her purse/wallet about 20 years ago, since then she keeps a good eye on her things. It may be paranoia or her criminology background, but if it's gone it has been stolen!

Ann's Inuit knowledge, led her to chose the 'rocks' icon for her question 4. She likes technology for what it can do for us but finds technical stuff mentally frustrating, she lives with it but does not enjoy it.

Where does Kimya spend most of her day? - usually at work. At home or in the office of 'Non Profit'. When she can, she goes out for walks around the harbour area of Baltimore.

Final question of the Final and the Series - What is the best thing you can buy for 1£/$/euro?  Ann can buy a roll of 'dog poop bags' perfect for the discerning dog owner and perfect for keeping the sidewalks clean.

What are the FUNKQUEST rules?

FunkQuest is a fun interactive online game that features five rounds. Each player selects the icon which most tweaks their interest.  Each Funky icon has a Funky question.
The question shown may or may not be related to the icon.

SO potential Funksters have to think on their feet. The winner is decided by the audience and goes through to the next round.

What's so good about FUNKQUEST ?

Funky Thinkers know that IDEAS only come from free-flowing CONVERSATION.
Listening (without prejudice) to new ideas and speakers from outside your usual network truly qualifies as FUNKY.
Each question has a strict time limit. So no multi-headed long and complicated self indulgent stories to endure.  Just short punchy bite-sized truly Funky ideas, as we GET THE FUNK OUT!

Discussed in this episode>

FunkQuest season 2

  • Ann gets my vote 🙂 Both ladies are great, but Ann’s answers were more light hearted and fun – something I appreciate these days.

  • I vote Ann. The insight about having tough discussions in the car was spot on! No direct eye contact which is hard-wired into primates to be a sign of a threat. Great job!

    • Very FUNKY. Funnily enough, very few people do. They miss the low hanging fruit. Prefering to head off straight to “social meja”

  • Dr. Kimya. For her culmination of interviews on Funkquest where she’s always speaking on power dynamics and injustices and more. But more so for her healing work across all social spectrums (online and offline) and within many identity structures.

    🙏🏻🌌⚡🔥🌊💜

  • I vote for Kimya. The response on the sunglasses speaks volumes. We often shade ourselves from reality so that we feel comfortable. Are you truly a funky thinker if you’re always comfortable.

  • Ann has my vote, I especially liked the bit about how she handles issues with her husband, talk it out in the car

  • Ann! She shared so much of her own story and experiences. She was funny, engaging, candid, and honest.
