Most opt in boxes are sad and lonely. Nobody loves them. Their owners lovingly crafted them. Sadly though, most internet users are too busy and too stressed these days. They don't care.
For a sideways look at the sad and lonely life of the average opt in box - watch the video below.
If your optin box is average, then no one will fill it it.
You can spend hours doing research on which is the best tool to create popups.
You can figure which is the best popup service for your theme.
You can put shouty red arrows and bullet points to spell out your offer.
Why don't people fill in their email address?
Well, firstly, if you ask ANYONE at all who has spent anytime on the internet (Or at least anytime alive) in the last 2 years what is the one thing they hate, they will answer.
Being sold to.
This is such a remarkable discovery, it should be force fed to school children as soon as they can speak.
No one buys your screaming red arrows, fake countdowns and timers any more. They have seen it all before.
Plus - let's be perfectly honest. Take a step back and ask your yourself. (Or get someone else to ask it for you).
Is what you are offering such a breakthrough that your visitor will drop what they are doing and drop their email address into your opt in box?
No I don't think so either.
If you haven't got something that is DRAMATICALLY different, AND that people can't get from AMAZON, Ebay or the supermarkets, you are in a shouting match.
Pure and simple.
Most opt in boxes are sad and lonely. Nobody loves them. Their owners lovingly crafted them.
Sadly though, most internet users are too busy and too stressed these days. They don't care.
The other thing to think about is that, yes, the internet creates the level playing field.
The downside of that means that everyone has access to the same tools, the same software and templates.
Everything looks the same and does the average internet user read anything on the internet any more?
You know it...
Therefore, the average internet user thinks "Meehhh... seen that before...."
